- קַרְקֵשch. sam(קרקש to knock, clap, ring). Ber.62a מְקַרְקְשָׁא, v. לְקִינָא. Pes.112a נְקַרְקֵש נכתמאוכ׳ (not מקרקש; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 9) let him knock the lid against the pitcher. Keth.86a מְקרְקֵש ליה זוזו he makes the coins clapper to him, i. e. offers him a few Zuz; Gitt.40b top. Cant. R. to VII, 9 הוון נסבין … והוון מְקַרְקְשִׁין בהון they (Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah) took their idols, broke them and made of them bells which they hanged on their dogs and asses, and they clappered with them (ref. to Is. 46:1); a. e.
